FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
ESG & Sustainability Consulting
The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive requires companies to publish annual sustainability reports according to European Sustainability Reporting Standards. Following the 2025 Omnibus Package, mandatory reporting now applies primarily to companies with more than 1,000 employees. Wave 1 large listed companies are already reporting for FY2024. Wave 2 companies report from 2028. Even if not directly in scope, many Belgian companies are indirectly affected through their customers' supply chain data requirements. ELVI Partners can assess your specific situation.
A double materiality assessment evaluates sustainability topics from two perspectives: impact materiality — how your organisation's activities affect people and the environment — and financial materiality — how sustainability risks and opportunities affect your financial performance. CSRD requires both perspectives. ELVI Partners facilitates ESG processes across Belgian organisations, typically over 6–10 weeks, engaging internal stakeholders and external experts.
CSRD is primarily a reporting obligation — it requires companies to disclose sustainability information according to ESRS. CSDDD goes further — it requires companies to actively identify, prevent and remedy adverse impacts on human rights and the environment across their supply chains. Both directives are interconnected: CSRD reporting on supply chain impacts is closely linked to CSDDD due diligence requirements. ELVI Partners supports Belgian organisations on both.
Scope 3 emissions are indirect greenhouse gas emissions across a company's value chain — both upstream from suppliers and downstream from product use. For most Belgian companies, Scope 3 represents 70–90% of their total carbon footprint, making it the most important — and most difficult — category for climate action. CSRD (ESRS E1) and voluntary frameworks including SBTi and CDP require Scope 3 measurement and reduction targets.
We support Belgian companies in understanding their current EcoVadis score, identifying priority improvement areas across the four themes — Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement — developing concrete action plans with supporting evidence, and preparing documentation for the next assessment cycle.
